Introduction
Markly ("we", "our", "the app") is a desktop Markdown editor that prioritizes your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Data We Collect
1. Anonymous Usage Analytics
We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to collect anonymous usage data. This helps us understand how the app is used and improve the experience.
Data collected includes:
- Operating system type and version
- App version
- Anonymous event names (e.g. "app started", "export used")
- Country-level location (derived from IP, IP is not stored)
Data NOT collected:
- Document content or file names
- Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Keystroke or input data
You can opt out of analytics at any time in Preferences > General > Usage Analytics.
2. AI Features (Optional)
When you use AI-powered features (chat, writing assistance), the text you select or the document context is sent to the third-party AI API endpoint you configure (e.g. OpenAI, DeepSeek). We do not operate these services. Please review the privacy policy of your chosen AI provider.
- Your API key is stored locally on your device
- We do not proxy, store, or have access to your AI conversations
- AI features are entirely optional and require manual configuration
3. Image Hosting (Optional)
When you enable image host upload, pasted images are sent to the third-party image hosting service you configure. We do not operate these services.

- We do not proxy or store your uploaded images
4. Purchases
- App Store purchases are handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store payment information. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- License key activation sends only the license key to our validation server for verification. No other personal data is transmitted.
Data Storage
All your documents, settings, and configuration data are stored locally on your device. We do not have cloud storage or sync services. We cannot access your files.

Your Rights
- Opt out of analytics: Preferences > General > Usage Analytics
- Delete local data: Uninstalling the app removes all local data
- Control AI data: Choose your own AI provider and review their data policies
- Control image uploads: Choose your own image host and review their data policies
Children's Privacy
Markly does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date above.
